The remains have not been identified yet and “the recovery is in progress,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 33-year-old “Glee” alum went missing Wednesday while on a boating trip with her 4-year-old son.
The boy, Josey, was found alone on the rented boat, but Rivera was nowhere to be seen.
“We’re presuming that an accident happened and we’re presuming that she drowned in the lake,” Deputy Chris Dyer of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
As of Sunday, the police had expanded their search from the lake, about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles, to include nearby cabins and outbuildings.
Local police said the underwater search has been hampered by low visibility, only about one or two feet, which requires the divers to search by touch. Diver Max O’Brien told reporters that it was like a “Braille search.”
Officials had warned the public, including actress Heather Morris, not to join the search because of the dangerous terrain.
Rivera is best known for her role as cheerleader Santana Lopez on Ryan Murphy’s musical high school show “Glee,” on which she starred for all six seasons. More recently, she starred in the YouTube Red series “Step Up,” based on the movie starring Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum.

She was previously married to actor Ryan Dorsey, Josey’s father.
“Rest sweet, Naya,” Jane Lynch, who co-starred with Rivera on “Glee,” tweeted. “What a force you were. Love and peace to your family.”
Monday is the seventh anniversary of the death of Cory Monteith, Rivera’s “Glee” co-star, who died of a drug overdose in 2013.
